Project Penguin

There are around 17-19 species of penguins that call the southern hemisphere home. Penguins can weigh roughly from 2-80 pounds. This bird's distinct colouring allows for camouflage underwater. A penguin's diet consists primarily of small crabs, fish, shrimp, and squid.

Several of the penguin species are endangered, with 13 of the 18 experiencing a decline in population. Commercial fishing increases competition with penguins for fish, a crucial part of their diet. A decrease in the amount of sea ice has created a problem for several of the penguin species, along with invasive predators that pose a threat to the birds’ survival.
